Aurora 3000

3 Wavelength Integrating Nephelometer

The amount of sunlight reaching the Earth’s surface, rather than being scattered back to space, is an important parameter to accurately model the influence of aerosol scattering on our planet’s radiative balance. The Aurora™ 3000 is the favoured choice of researchers as it facilitates simultaneous measurement across three wavelengths, enabling wide and in-depth analysis of the interaction between light and aerosols. It integrates measurements of full scatter and backscatter, making it a perfect instrument for climate change research.

The technology behind the insight / Class-leading technology

Using a LED light source, the Aurora 3000 simultaneously measures at 450 nm (blue), 525 nm (green) and 635 nm (red) to enable wide and in-depth analysis of the interaction between light and aerosols. The Acoem Aurora 3000 includes backscatter measurements that allow both standard integrating measurements of 9 – 170° and also the backscatter 90 – 170.

Like other instruments in the Aurora range, the Aurora 3000 has a range from 0.3 to 20,000 Mm-1. A high-precision option is also available, with a lower detectable limit of 0.1 Mm-1

  • 450nm (blue) interacts strongly with fine and ultrafine particulates (wood fires, automobiles)
  • 525nm (green) interacts strongly throughout the human range of visibility (smog, fog, haze)
  • 635nm (red) interacts strongly with large particulate matter (pollen, sea salt)

All-round capability

The Aurora 3000 facilitates simultaneous measurement across three wavelengths, enabling wide and in-depth analysis of the interaction between light and aerosols. The three wavelengths (Red 635nm, Green 525nm, Blue 450nm) all produce differential scattering and are affected differently by particles of different sizes, shapes, and compositions.

High precision range

Like other instruments in the Aurora range, the Aurora 3000 has a range from 0.3 to 20,000 Mm-1. A high-precision option is also available, with a lower detectable limit of 0.1 Mm-1. It includes backscatter measurements that allow both standard integrating measurements of 9 – 170° and also the backscatter of 90 – 170°.

Applications

Aurora TM integrating nephelometers measure the light scattering coefficient of ambient aerosol particles with high sensitivity and time resoltuion, in a wide range of monitoring and research application, related to air pollution and climate.

World-class aerosol monitoring & measurement

Aurora range of integrating nephelometers are an ideal solution for helping us identify, understand and plan ways to control pollution, and the imbalance and degradation of the environment. They are the instruments of choice of governments and Environmental Protection Authorities (EPAs) around the world for visibility applications. Moreover, its simplified automatic calibration with internal valves makes it ideal for remote as well as high altitude locations.
