Class-leading aerosol solutions by Acoem, EAC 2021 Silver sponsor

Aurora™ nephelometers — The trusted name in aerosol measurement solution

Understanding aerosols, how they grow and transform under different environmental conditions and their effect on climate has never been more important, especially in light of the current challenges we are facing such as the global pandemic, the climate crisis and air quality-related health issues.

Acoem’s range of Aurora™ nephelometers accurately measures light scattering properties of aerosols. As the instruments of choice for environmental agencies and the scientific community, Aurora™ nephelometers are relied upon by aerosol researchers globally — rightly due to the breadth of their functionality to measure visibility, full scatter and backscatter at various wave lengths.

In particular, the Aurora™ 3000 and Aurora™ 4000 models have garnered a reputation for excellence based on their accuracy, flexibility, ease of use and ability to work successfully under extreme weather and environmental conditions — from the heat of the desert to the polar icecaps.

Endorsed by ACTRIS atmospheric researchers

The Aerosol, Clouds & Trace Gases Research Infrastructureorganisation (ACTRIS) provides access to high-quality long-term atmospheric data for its members in 22 countries, 112 facilities and 144 research organisations.

ACTRIS has been utilising Aurora™ 3000 nephelometers for its ongoing atmospheric research applications across Europe for more than five years. During this time, Acoem has developed a number of new features for both the Aurora™ 3000 and Aurora™ 4000, tailoring solutions to meet ACTRIS’ specific requirements.

Precision aerosol data for a wide array of research applications

Aurora™ nephelometers currently operate in several station networks including ACTRIS and Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW) — a worldwide system established by the World Meteorological Organization to monitor the state and trends in the Earth’s atmosphere. Their diversity of application in extensive international research campaigns range from Antarctica to the Gobi Desert, and the Amazon to the Mediterranean — on ground as well as ships, aircraft, vehicle and other mobile platforms.

  • Examples of research projects that have utilised Aurora™ nephelometers include:
  • Early warning monitoring for dust storms in the Gobi Desert (China)
  • Vehicle-based monitoring of wildfires (USA)
  • Ship-based AQABA air quality and climate change study (Arabian Peninsula)
  • High altitude aircraft-based monitoring of volcanic ash levels (United Kingdom)

More than a measuring instrument – a fully-integrated ecosystem

Together with the ACS 1000 aerosol conditioning system, which allows the study of the hygroscopic properties of aerosols under controlled and variable relative humidity levels, the Aurora™ nephelometer range works seamlessly with Acoem’s ecosystem of technology, expertise and support.

Full connectivity of the Aurora™ nephelometers with other Acoem analytical ecosystem’s building blocks such as the Congrego® data logger and Airodis™ software, gives to the researchers the confidence that their data will be accurate, relevant and shareable, and allows them to focus on their research.

“Acoem’s aerosol measurement instruments have been developed to make measuring, recording, and processing of complex data easier for researchers — from acquiring the sample right through to sharing the qualified data with project collaborators or government authorities, saving time and effort,” said Jošt Lavrič, PhD, Acoem’s International Sales Manager – Scientific.

“We look forward to the opportunity of meeting with atmospheric scientists — albeit virtually — at EAC 2021, to help them simplify their acquisition of good quality aerosol data and their analysis process,” Dr. Lavrič added.
