Greenhouse gases are gases in the atmosphere which absorb and emit radiation within the thermal infrared range. Changes in the concentration of these gases due to both man made and natural effects increase the risk of global climate change.

The main greenhouse gases include; water vapour (H₂O), carbon dioxide (CO₂), methane (CH₄), nitrous oxide (N₂0), hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs) and sulphur hexafluoride (SF₆).
