Methane/Non-methane (TNMHC)

Overview

Ecotech are a provider of a wide variety of methane/non-methane analyzers for the measurement of methane, as well as the total hydrocarbons. These analyzers are based on Flame Ionization Detection (FID) and allow continuous, trouble free sampling of total hydrocarbons and methane. The methane/non-methane analyzers are designed to minimize operator time on-site through the following features:

  • Instrument menus and processes accessible remotely
  • Can perform all calibrations automatically
  • Automatically sends alarms when faults occur

Applications

The monitoring of Methane and Non Methane Hydrocarbons is of importance in a number of different application that include:

  • Ambient Air Monitoring
  • VOC Monitoring
  • Industrial hygeine and safety monitoring
  • Fenceline monitoring around industrial sites

Due to the relative ease that Total Non Methane Hydrocarbons can be measured this parameter often is measured as a substitute to measuring total volatile organic hydrocarbons (VOCs) and replaces the more complex gas chromatography measurement technique.

Measurement theory

Ecotech supplies Methane/Non Methane Hydrocarbon analyzers which use the Flame Ionization Detection (FID) principle and catalytic oxidiser for accurate and precise measurement of methane and non methane hydrocarbons from 0.1 to 1000 ppm.

The analyzer delivers a small portion of the sample gas to the detector flame. During the combustion process, organic or hydrocarbon-based gases in the sample are ionized then they are detected by the instrument and reported as a concentration.

The analyzer can be configured with internal components for single or multipoint analysis of non-condensing gas samples. An automatic calibration feature enhances the long-term analytical stability of the instrument and place the instrument well ahead of the competition in performance, automation, and configurability.
