Ambient Air Monitoring and Data Management

EcoSys™ - the Environmental Information Management System, is used for comprehensive monitoring and data management. EcoSys™ is a robust Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system with numerous environmental extensions. This software manages information recorded at each remote station.

Virtually an unlimited number of stations can be added to the existing system. Every EcoSys™ client is totally independent and has a password protected database. However, by sharing hardware and software the operating costs are minimized.

The main focus of EcoSys™ is on collection of credible data guaranteed by outstanding alarming capabilities of the system. Deviations are immediately registered, assessed and corrective actions initiated. This philosophy is similar to modern industrial plants or hospitals where properly tested and maintained instruments collect vital data without any need of adjusting individual database entries weeks later. At each remote station an EcoRex RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) is managing data collection as well as data transfer to the central computer. Access to data is available through Internet EcoWeb application or by other simple data transfer software such as ProComm or HyperTerminal.

In 1994 Eco Tech was selected to manage the Strathcona Industrial Association (SIA) monitoring system and upgraded that system to EcoSys™. The SIA monitoring network consists of seven sophisticated stations in the eastern part of the city of Edmonton. Ambient air quality readings are recorded every second. All multi-stakeholders have simultaneous access to the real-time data. Eco Tech provides 24-hour response to alarms and initiates field investigations if required.
